Have a few old tires in your garage? Just bought a new TV and don’t know what to do with the old one? If you live in Kansas City, Missouri, here's your chance to properly dispose of these and other unwanted items.
The City is sponsoring a ‘Hard to Recycle’ event on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. to noon in the parking lot across the street from the Manual Career and Technical Center, 1215 East Truman Rd. This recycling effort gives KCMO residents an opportunity to re-purpose larger, hard-to-recycle items in a responsible manner that's easy and free of charge.
Several partners/vendors are participating, including:
Surplus Exchange: cell phones, printers, scanners, modems, CD drives, cables, keyboards, mice, televisions, VCRs, DVD players, camcorders, cameras, game players and joysticks, telephones, pagers, answering machines, typewriters, calculators and adding machines. (home printers/fax, tube TVs and tube monitors are $20, rear projection TVs and copy machines are $50)
City of Kansas City, Missouri: tires, yard waste, batteries, white goods - i.e. washers, dryers, refrigerators, bulky items and recyclable glass.
In 2016, Kansas City residents recycled more than 30,000 tons of waste, keeping 30 percent of household trash out of landfills.
KCMO residents can also take household waste free of charge to the city’s Environmental Campus, 4707 Deramus, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Acceptable items include paint, automotive products, hazardous liquids, flammables, lawn and garden products and pesticides. Â
