The following statement was sent to the Mayor's office, Andrea Bough and Johnathan Duncan along with Mario Vasquez and the Waldo Area Business Association on November 7, 2025 - Kansas City, Missouri
To Whom It May Concern:
The Waldo Tower Neighborhood Association recommends that the City explore alternatives rather than replacing the destroyed Waldo logo at Wornall and 75th. We remain concerned about the recurring criminal activity in Waldo and the significant public investment of $37,000 for the original logo along with potential replacement costs exceeding $75,000 total.
Replacing the logo would likely create another target for sideshow activity and could necessitate sideshow deterrent grooves, which pose a safety risk for motorcyclists and conflict with the City’s Vision Zero goals.
We urge the City to consider an alternative art solution that is resistant to vandalism or to redirect funds to other neighborhood priorities.
Additionally, we suggest collaborating with the Art Commission on a piece that reflects Waldo’s character, supports 2026 event goals, and strengthens both marketable and digital presence for the neighborhood.
Thank you for your attention and dedication to making Waldo’s streets safe, practical, and vibrant for everyone.
