Kansas City is celebrating a major milestone!

The long-awaited KC Streetcar Main Street Extension is officially opening on Friday, October 24, 2025.

This 3.5-mile extension connects Union Station to the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) at 51st Street and Brookside Boulevard, creating a vital transit spine for the city.

The grand opening will be a weekend-long celebration, free and open to the public.

Here are the key highlights:

• Official Grand Opening Ceremony: The festivities kick off on Friday, October 24, at 10:00 a.m. at the Plaza streetcar stop. The ceremony will feature city leaders and project partners, followed by the official opening of the extension for passenger service.

• Community Celebration - Day 1: From 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, head to the UMKC streetcar stop for a lively party featuring food, live music, and a special drone show.

• Community Celebration - Day 2: The celebration continues on Saturday, October 25, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Murray Davis Park (40th & Main Street). This family-friendly fall festival will include live bands, drill teams, and face painting.
