The grand opening of the KC Streetcar Main Street Extension to UMKC celebration is planned for the morning of Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Plaza Streetcar Stop, with an opening to public passenger service beginning immediately after.

Kansas City is celebrating a major milestone!
The long-awaited KC Streetcar Main Street Extension is officially opening on Friday, October 24, 2025.
This 3.5-mile extension connects Union Station to the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) at 51st Street and Brookside Boulevard, creating a vital transit spine for the city.
The grand opening will be a weekend-long celebration, free and open to the public.
Here are the key highlights:
Official Grand Opening Ceremony: The festivities kick off on Friday, October 24, at 10:00 a.m. at the Plaza streetcar stop. The ceremony will feature city leaders and project partners, followed by the official opening of the extension for passenger service.
Community Celebration - Day 1: From 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, head to the UMKC streetcar stop for a lively party featuring food, live music, and a special drone show.
Community Celebration - Day 2: The celebration continues on Saturday, October 25, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Murray Davis Park (40th & Main Street). This family-friendly fall festival will include live bands, drill teams, and face painting.
