Why This Matters
Nearly 1 in 2 families with young children do not have enough diapers to keep their child clean, dry, and healthy. Since 2009, HappyBottoms has worked to close this monthly shortfall—known as the diaper gap—for families across the Kansas City metro area.
Facts about diaper need in Kansas City:
Diapers are not covered by government safety‑net programs such as food stamps, Medicaid, or WIC.
An estimated 21,000 children in our area need diaper assistance (U.S. Census 2020).
Families experiencing diaper need report missing an average of 5.1 workdays per month because they don’t have the required number of diapers for their child to attend daycare.
