Reduced speed limit will make 59th Street more neighborhood-friendly

Speed reduced to 25 mph across entire length of the road

Starting Friday, December 28, the speed limit on 59th Street will be reduced to 25 miles per hour across the entire length of the city. Kansas City Public Works crews will update existing speed limit signs along the road, with added warnings to highlight the change.

This change affects the street from Wornall Road east to the city limits. The street is already 25 mph from Wornall Road west to State Line Road.

Lowering the speed limit will calm traffic and provide a safer street that reflects the overall residential character of 59th Street. A major thoroughfare, 63rdStreet, is available just four blocks away for east-west traffic.

The 59th Street speed limit change is the result of listening to neighborhood residents and looking at traffic data during community conversations involving Public Works staff and Councilwoman Jolie Justus.
